Pot Luck Meat

Sometimes you just have to know when to shop.

Here in G-town, one of the local supermarkets discounts it’s meat late on a Saturday afternoon, meaning you can pick up some real deals. Most weeks they do a straight 50% off.

As you can imagine, there can be a fair bit of competition for the bestest deals, but it’s worth going in with elbows swinging occasionally to fill the freezer. Some weeks you’ll be battling two dozen similarly minded meateaters, others you’ll have the luxury of picking up a packet and reading the label before tossing it down and looking at the next offering.

The best part of meat shopping like this is that you don’t know what you’re going to get – some days you might walk away with a nice lamb roast, other days some pork mince or stir-fry beef. Some days you’ll get it all. Best I’ve done was over $200 of assorted dead animals for a little over $100.

I generally like to put my hand into the lucky meat dip once a month and see how I go.

Today I needed to pick Miss15 up from the supermarket where she was working so I wandered in to see what was on offer. I only picked up a couple of bargains, but it still turned a quick twenty minute round trip into a $15 saving for our freezer – who says a guy can’t multi-task.
