A bit obvious, but it deserves a mention – stock up on pasta.
We usually have a dozen or so packets of dry pasta in the pantry, especially spaghetti (our kids’ favourite) and fettuccine (my favourite). Pasta is cheap, easy to do something with when you’re in a hurry and it goes a long way.
And there are countless varieties of meals – mince & can of tomatoes or tomato soup, cream with onion and bacon, tuna or even a simple jar of pasta sauce. Add some fresh parsley (grow your own in a pot) or olives, grate Parmesan over the top (our kids prefer half a handful of grated cheddar) and Bob’s your uncle.
