“You stay home with the sleeping baby,” I told my wife, “and get some editing done, and I’ll take the others to the pool.” I pictured me reading a book while they splashed around in the wading pool. No. Not even close.

Against The Odds

While we don’t seek to actively avoid it, gambling isn’t something we normally encourage in this house: It just doesn’t come up.

Still, our hand was kind of forced this week when a letter from a distant family member arrived with a $1 Scratchie for each of my little darlings.

The first two weeks of Little Athletics are a trial, and next week we’ll be signing the kids up and paying our fees. I’m not sure if it’s because we deal so much in hand me downs in this big family, but the kids are super excited because they get a new shirt.
