Over the years I’ve noticed that my kids are the most demanding and annoying just when I’m wanting some quiet time to myself.
What my clever wife does when she wants some time to relax or think or (does it ever end) do housework is to set the kids up with an activity. Tracey might bring out the paper and paints and set the kids up on the outside table, or turn that same table into a cubby house from old sheets and let the kids fill it up with their favourite books and toys.
A few minutes setting this up gives her the time she wants for other activities and helps avoid those ‘no parent-of-the-year award for me again this year’ situations where we’re yelling at the kids to give us a minute or 60.
