Back in 2008 I wrote a short 10,000 word story for my kids. This is that story.
Worst Camping Trip Ever is based on an Easter my family spent camping up at O’Reily’s in the Gold Coast Hinterland. It was dreadful and uncomfortable and all sorts of difficult.
Apparently. All I know is I had fun.
So I’ve set my little story in those memories I have of camping with my well-intentioned but out of their depth city dweller parents and two fantastic siblings.
In the interests of full disclosure, despite being written for a younger audience, this story uses the words poo and idiot several times and there’s various toilet humour, plus there’s fighting, bullying and parents squabbling (just a little). At one point the story also flouts a well known Easter tradition while espousing the importance of not turning the other cheek.
But all ends well and there’s a bit about how nice forests are.
Which is my way of saying this is a short, fun story and I hope you like it.
