My Latest Parenting Fail

miss57

“Enough!” I snapped, standing at the doorway of Miss7 and Miss5’s room.

I’d been sitting on the balcony listening to them rattle on for the last thirty minutes and I was sick of it. I don’t mind a little post-lights out natter, but there comes a time when two little girls need to sleep. And that time was fifteen minutes ago.

I shook my finger in the general direction of their beds. I say ‘general direction’ because I can’t see in the dark, so I was guessing the exact location of their guilty little heads but hoping to make up for what I lacked in accuracy with some serious Daddy voice.

“If I hear either of you two again there’ll be less fun and more toilet cleaning this weekend for both of you.”

Not a peep came from the room.

Satisfied I’d made my point I turned and strode towards the kitchen for a celebratory cup of tea.

Which was when I heard two giggling girls behind me!

I spun, ready to go all Samuel L Jackson on them-

-and realized they were running into their bedroom.

They’d both been in the bathroom, which is the room next to their bedroom, when I had my rant – so it seems I’d just made one hell of a speech to their pillows.
