The complaints have been coming thick and fast lately in the Devereaux household lately regarding homework.
“It takes so long!” the three primary schoolers will moan.
“So just get in and do it!” I’ll suggest loudly. Often over the screen of my laptop.
“But I don’t understand what I have to do!”
“Just read the damn instructions and follow them,” I’ll suggest. Yes, I’m probably low level cussing a little by now. “How hard can it be?”
Well, I think they could learn a thing or two from their little prepper sister, Miss5.
“Can you read this?” she asked me tonight, trying to push her homework book between me and my laptop screen. She’s fearless.
“You read it,” I told her, nudging it back.
“I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m only five.”
She may not be able to read terribly well but she’s nonetheless excellent at arguing a case.
I consoled myself with the idea I would be giving her a task which would take up her attention for several minutes – leaving me in peace to answer my emails.
I was wrong.
“Draw a picture of your house,” I read. “What number is on your house or letterbox? Write this number on your house.” I handed her back the scrapbook. “You got that?”
“Yes, Daddy,” she assured me.
“You know what the number is on our house?” I didn’t want to be interrupted again before I’d finished.
“One,” she said, and raced back to the table.
I tried to re-gather my thoughts as I turned to my laptop. I’d just found the spot I’d left off reading when…
“Finished,” Miss3 called out.
Doubtful, I stood up and faced her. She was sitting back in the chair, arms folded and looking smug.
“You can’t have,” I muttered, walking over.
Oh, yes she could.
As you can see from the pic below, I think the older kids could learn a thing or two from their little sister about following instructions.

Haha well, can’t really complain about that – meets the brief! As in she only gave you a brief time out haha
This is just like my little Mr6! However, he would have done it this way because he hates coloring and getting him to do any art-type project is like pulling teeth; but if you put a math work book in front of him BAM! He just giggles as he adds and subtracts and works out fractions. My odd kid haha
