Breaking Out In A Nervous Rash

This post and the Rescue Rashies are both sponsored by Westpac

This idea is a little bit priceless.

Before embarking on this big lap with our kids, Tracey and I actually took a first aid course. Potentially we’re going to be outback or on mostly deserted beaches or in forests so we figured if something happened – snakes or breaks or other things I don’t like to think too much about – we wanted to be able to offer help before the proper help arrived.

Want to know what I remember about CPR? You can keep the beat by rocking out Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust or the Bee Gee’s Stayin’ Alive in your head.

Aside from that, I worry not so much.

So I can only imagine how much harder it would be to recall the bits about clearing the airways during an actual event.

One thing we’re all pretty onto these days when we go near water is being sun safe. We slip, we slop, we slap. Prevention has been drummed in to us.

But there is a more immediate threat where pools and rivers and oceans are concerned, and unfortunately drowning accounts for a tragic number of deaths. 282 in 2016. Already 291 in 2017 as we come into summer.

So here’s an idea, let’s combine our common sense and ingrained habit of slipping on a shirt with a way to actually help if we’re around when the worst happens.

Quite aside from their support of the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service, Westpac are promoting their Rescue Rashies this year which, you’ll see from the photo below, are not only wonderfully sun safe and bright, but also have step by step instructions on what to do in the event of a drowning.

I think I’m maybe a little paranoid about drownings because we’ve had some what I’d term ‘close calls’. Not close as in anyone’s needed intervention to help them breathe, but close in that the kid involved in each of the three incidents wouldn’t have made it out of their situation without help which just happened to be looking in the right direction at the right time.

These rashies really do look great and stuff like ‘clear airway’ is right there as step four (directly after ‘get someone to call 000) in easy to access and read instructions if you ever need them.

Here’s the thing, from time to time we all need to buy a rashie for our kids. They either outgrow them or they succumb to wear & tear.

What I’m proposing is replacing the old with an even better new one.

Rescue Rashies retail for a very reasonable $35.00 online via our Rescue Rashie website <  https://www.rescuerashie.com.au >, and EVEN BETTER, the proceeds from Rescue Rashies will be donated to Take Heart Australia to support the ongoing education of CPR.

If these rashies save one life all summer, I think you’d agree they would be worth it.

Now imagine the life they save is someone you know and try put a price on them.

We’ll take five please.

If, heaven forbid, you ever need the instructions it’s a simple matter of unzipping the rash. Meanwhile, they’re bright, sunsafe and look great.
I love when the opportunity comes up for me to throw a bucket of water at my girls.
You know, for a good cause.

Raising a family on little more than laughs

– thank you to Westpac for sponsoring this post and more importantly for putting their considerable efforts behind helping to keep Aussies safe for summer –
